Reptil is a contemporary interpretation of the Turtle typeface, designed by Bob Newman. He is a British designer best known for his Data Seventy typefaces and the iconic Frankfurter. Turtle was published in 1971 by Letraset and distributed during the photocomposition era. It was subsequently forgotten before being digitised in the 2000s and then brought back here.
After study, it became clear that Turtle was designed around circular shapes. Based on this design principle, and thanks to the precision offered by contemporary design software, the designers extended the modular letter construction system to develop a complete character set.
Reptil is definitely a vintage typeface with a contemporary touch, a typeface that searches for the limits of legibility while always being clearly visible. Its compact capitals form blocks that give perfect structure to all types of design, while the striking shapes of the lower case never fail to attract and surprise the eye.
